FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SPECIALTY GASES

Specialty Gases

Why do different gas mixtures have different valve connections?

Scott Specialty Gases follows the guidelines of the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) when determining which valve to use for a particular gas mixture. The guidelines were developed primarily to prevent the intermingling of incompatible gases such as flammables and oxidizers or acids and bases. The valve outlet connection type is determined by the FTSC code for each component. This is a four-digit code consisting of four ratings: fire potential, toxicity, state of gas, and corrosiveness.
