Scott Specialty Gases
FUEL ETHANOL PRODUCTION

Need Help?

Scott Specialty Gases is the world's foremost authority and supplier of environmental calibration gases and helps meet the needs of fuel ethanol production plants.

Thermal oxidizers and waste heat boilers used at ethanol production plants are subject to New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) Subpart Db. This regulation applies to units built, modified or reconstructed after June 19th, 1984 with a heat input capacity greater than 100 million btu/hr. In most instances, NSPS Subpart Db and/ or Title V permits require a continuous emission monitor for NOx for ethanol production plants fueled by natural gas, coal or oil. The continuous emissions tests requirements are daily calibration, CGA quarterly tests and an annual RATA using methods 7e or 20 from CFR 40 part 60.

In addition, many state environmental agencies require monitoring and measurement of specific Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) utilizing EPA test methods 18, 25A, and FTIR method 320. These VOCs include acetaldehyde, acrolein, formaldehyde, 2-furaldehyde, methanol, acetic acid and lactic acid and some are considered Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) at certain levels.

Our experience with NOx, VOCs and other pollutants including carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide will help you ensure regulatory compliance and drive down operating costs at your plant. In addition, we can help you identify which VOCs can and cannot be measured, and at what levels. This will insure that your emissions permit is both measurable and manageable.
