Anesthetic Pressure Information
In gas mixtures containing vaporized anesthetic agents such as halothane, the anesthetic agent can condense and separate back into a liquid if exposed
to a temperature below the mixture’s dew point. The table below lists the vapor pressures of the common anesthetic agents at 0°C and the maximum pressure for a mix of a given standard composition.
To calculate the restricted pressure of your mixture, divide the VP constant for the anesthetic by the concentration. For example, to calculate the
final pressure of a 1% halothane balance nitrogen gas mixture, you would divide 1.87 by 0.01 (1%). The resulting pressure or 187 psia (172 psig) is the
maximum fill pressure for your gas mixture. This product must be kept above 0°C or condensation and a resulting loss of concentration will occur.
