The US Department of Energy (DOE) has formed the Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership to develop approaches for capturing and storing gases that contribute to global climate change. The goal of this government and industry effort is to unveil the most suitable technologies, regulations and infrastructure needs for carbon capture, storage and sequestration. Funding will be distributed to carbon dioxide sequestration related technologies that economically meet these partnership goals.
Geographical differences in fossil fuel use and the variation of sequestration sinks across the Unites States demand a regional approach to carbon dioxide sequestration. Currently, seven partnerships form the regional network which includes 350+ state agencies, universities and private companies. These organizations span 41 states, two Indian nations and four Canadian provinces. These regional partnerships demonstrate the increasing advocacy and our nation’s realization of the critical importance of cleaner air.
