 The photovoltaics/solar market continues to grow as the costs to manufacture solar cells decline and companies develop more versatile cell designs. For example, thin film technology now allows solar cells to double as rooftop shingles, roof tiles, building facades and even the glazing for skylights. In addition, thin film solar cells enable truly low-cost PV devices to be produced by using fewer active semiconductor materials as opposed to larger quantities required for traditional crystalline-silicon cells.
As the technology behind solar cell manufacturing evolves, widespread use of solar cells will increase demand.
