FLAME RESISTANCE OF CLOTH TEST GAS MIXTURES

Need Help?

Scott Specialty Gases' mixtures and gas handling equipment are uniquely suited to support flame resistance test methods conducted at laboratories worldwide.

Flame resistant cloth is used in various products including fire blankets, fire suits, fabrics attached to breathing apparatus and clothing for electricians and workers in the utility, oil and gas industries. ASTM D6413 “Standard Test Method for Flame Resistance of Textiles, Vertical Test” (formerly Method 5903 of Federal Test Method Standard 191A) defines the method to test for flame resistance. OSHA also defined test methods for protective clothing (1910 Subpart L App E) based on this Federal Test Method.

In these tests, gas mixtures are burned to produce a standardized flame. The composition of the gas mixture is:

55% Hydrogen (± 3%)
24% Methane (± 3%)
18% Carbon Monoxide (± 1%)
3% Ethane (± 1%)

Scott’s high quality gas mixtures will ensure consistent and accurate test results and increased test efficiency for flame resistance testing.

Gas mixtures for cloth flame resistance testing are available to buy online or contact us at 1-877-715-8651 for technical assistance.
