MICROBIAL VOCs

Need Help?

Microbial Volatile Organic Compounds (MVOC) for mold detection/analysis is a growing market in the wake of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina that devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. When mold grows, chemicals called MVOCs are released. Therefore, MVOCs are considered mold growth indicators because of their association with actively growing mold. Currently, most mold analysis is performed by analyzing air or dust samples. This is perceived as inaccurate because mold may be growing within structures or underneath carpets.

Industrial hygienists are beginning to use volatile organic compound analysis to search for MVOCs as markers of mold growth. These MVOCs are what comprise the characteristic musty odor of mold and have been found to be irritants to humans and contribute to sick building syndrome.

State regulations, beginning in California, are pending on exposure limits, remediation guidelines, disclosure requirements and enforcement for indoor mold.

Scott Specialty Gases, Inc. has the ability to produce single component gas mixtures in a balance of nitrogen for all MVOC’s listed below. We can also provide multi-component mixtures of many of these MVOC’s and will work with you to define your requirements and create a custom MVOC gas mixture. Specifications for these products will vary based on the combination of components and availability and purity of raw materials.
